Detection Of Fake News On Facebook With Google Chrome Application
Google Chrome is now implementing a plug-in for Facebook to detect fake news on Facebook. Initially it was expected that Facebook has launched this application but afterwards people came to know that this is actually not the Facebook feature. By this plug-in Facebook shows red warning labels about the news feeds or news links. It’s a limited test. A Type of red message appears on top of the news feeds. It also tells about the reason of the warning. It is a step taken to fight against those fake updates or news on the Facebook as one of them was faced by CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg. Developer of this application has sent an email to the Facebook for comments update in the application and is waiting for the response from Facebook itself. The test was run using this application to show red flag on the news feed for the detection purpose which remained visible on screens of many users for weeks, while disappeared as soon as they appeared.
By testing this application Facebook notified of fake news from a website that appeared regarding “veterans just arrived Standing Rock to from human shield around protesters”. It seems that Facebook is not only blocking or marking with the red flag, those news updates which spread fake news but also blocking all those websites completely. Facebook has not started blacklisting the fake news update spreading websites.
Facebook allowed a fake news and suffered because of that. It had a multiple effect on an action that helped Donald Trump to get elected due to misleading stories on the Facebook. The Facebook Company might thing about fake news that it is not a big deal or a big problem but as media pressure increased, it had to take an action. We all must believe that fake news threatens people and democracy and Facebook being a very famous social networking website, if it spreads out some words people trust them. It’s just very difficult for the Facebook to understand which news is fake and which is original and some of the media or verification services and Academy institutions might put in some news which may be Facebook thinks a false or a fake news.
